TPO & Compliance: What You Need to Know

At The GelBottle, our product development is anchored by a rigorous commitment to chemical safety and global regulatory standards. However, we recognise that professional trust is built on more than just product performance; it requires absolute transparency and timely communication.

We are committed to ensuring you are never left with questions about the science behind your kit. Central to this mission is our long-standing, active working relationship with the CTPA (Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association). As the UK’s leading authority on cosmetic safety, the CTPA is a constant fixture in our Research & Development (R&D) process. We don't simply consult them; we have embedded their safety knowledge into the very core of how we develop, refine, and reformulate our products.

The Regulatory Roadmap: GB Timelines

We previously shared that the TPO ban deadlines were July 2026 and January 2027. These dates were based on initial industry interpretation.

Following further review of the official UK legislation, and updated guidance from the CTPA aligned with Trading Standards, it has now been confirmed that TPO falls under a different provision with slightly extended deadlines. The updated GB deadlines are:

  • 15th August 2026 – Products containing TPO must not be placed on the GB market for the first time after this date.
  • 14th February 2027 – Final deadline for brands and distributors to sell through existing stock.

Importantly, continued professional use of products already purchased before these deadlines is permitted after the 14th of February 2027, in line with Trading Standards-aligned guidance. This means you can continue to use your existing stock until it runs out.

As this is a complex area and we want to ensure our community of professionals is fully informed on the TPO regulatory frameworks and implementations, we are hosting a technical webinar in partnership with the CTPA. This will provide a definitive overview of the changes, why the interpretation has been clarified, and what it means in practice for your business moving forward.

Date: Wednesday 8th AprilTime: 10:00 - 10:45 AM BST

Who is the CTPA?

The CTPA is the definitive trade body for the UK cosmetic industry. Acting as the primary interface between manufacturers and the UK Government, the CTPA helps companies ensure that all products on the market meet the stringent requirements of the UK Cosmetic Regulation.

What we’ll be covering:

This session provides a high-level overview of the legislative changes currently impacting the professional nail sector. Attendees will receive a comprehensive breakdown of the following:

  • The UK TPO Ban: A factual breakdown of Trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO). We will clarify the toxicological reasoning behind the restriction and the official UK regulatory timeline.
  • The CPSR Process and Product Verification: A technical walk-through of the Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR). We will define the role of the Safety Assessor and explain how compliance is legally verified for every TGB product.
  • Professional and Legal Responsibilities: An objective look at the duties held by salon owners and technicians.
  • TGB’s Reformulation Strategy: An inside look at how changes to cosmetics law impact TGB’s R&D and our proactive approach to ingredient substitution.

Our Commitment to Transparency

The cosmetic industry is navigating a period of significant regulatory evolution. At TGB, we believe that professional credibility is built on a foundation of scientific accuracy. By partnering with the CTPA, we are providing our community with direct access to the highest level of regulatory expertise in the UK.

We invite all professionals to join this session to ensure your business operations remain aligned with the latest industry standards and to get the answers you need directly from the experts.
